Our Story
Whether it’s standing by your mother’s stovetop or at a street vendor, drinking a warm cup of chai reminds the heart of home.
My love for chai is the reason I started Silk Route. I quit my corporate job in 2024 to start a business with the aspiration to bring what I love about my home country India to Sweden.
After eight years in Sweden. I still miss the Indian chai avaliable in every street corner and home. My own habit of making chai every morning diminished as it was time consuming and difficult to incorporate in a busy schedule. The idea behind Silk Route chai was there born - making authentic Indian chai easy and accessible.
The warming spices of chai is perfectly suited to the european weather and the perfect excuse for inviting someone over for fika. For me, chai is all about community - bringing people together. Sharing my love for chai with you, I hope we all can use it to build stronger communities.
Chai is a ritual, an opportunity to gather people together. Something sold in every street corner, train station,... in India and enjoyed by young and old, often many times per day.
Masala chai is traditionally made by boiling tea, spices, milk and sugar until it creates a rich consistency and sweet taste. Using warm ayurvedic spices such as cardamom, ginger, cinnamon and clove, it is a warming blend particularly soothing in cold weather that boosts your immunity..
Living and working in Sweden, I soon became familiar with the concept of fika and it reminded me of meeting up with friends at the chai wala’s stand back home. I started to see how chai was the perfect addition to fika, adding a warm sensation especially during the long winter months here.
